Azealia Banks talks controlling her own sound & being dissed by Juelz & Dame Dash

Musically, I like Azealia Banks (a lot) I think she's next! She's talented and has the IT factor. I believe she has a bright future ahead of her. I just hope she doesn't start becoming more known for her industry beefs with other artist.

Iggy, T.I. Nicki, and Lil Kim have all felt the wrath of of Azealia.... She young (i think only 20), If i could have a conversation with her, i would say "you are TOO talented to waste any energy on negativity... focus on you and the things that matter... let everything else go". I hope the people in her corner are telling her that.

In this recent interview with Vibe Magazine, Azealia talks about getting dissed by Dame Dash and Juelz Santana when she wanted to rap for them (she laughs about it now). She also talks about controlling her own sound and how the public feels she is a major brat. On who people think she is
Everyone thinks I’m this arrogant little twat, but I’m actually very levelheaded and real,” she says, unnerved by her unfolding homecoming. “Whether you’re from the States or London, my music will make you feel me.”
On trying spit a few bars for Damon Dash and Juelz Santa
Azealia Banks showed up for her big break a few years early. It’s 2008, and the Harlem-born rap rookie is dilly-dallying on the music video set for Juelz Santana’s ’hood carol “Jingle Bellz,” red peacoat beaming, knapsack bulging, lip gloss poppin’. She thumbs her Blackberry while awaiting an impromptu audition for her around-the-way heroes, only to be brushed off before uttering a single syllable. “I was prepared to spit for Dame Dash, but he kind of just went ‘Nah!’ and walked away. Womp”. Juelz looked at me like, ‘Whose little sister is here? Please get her the f-ck out.’”
On her music and sound
Not to shade anyone, but what I’m doing is so progressive and so many years ahead of my peers,” announces Banks, who’s working with Brit producer Paul Epworth (Adele, Cee-Lo) and soulful hipster Lana Del Ray for her first LP. “I do whatever the f-ck I want… even if someone did it before I’m gonna do it better.” (via necolebitchie)
